More information about becoming a therapy dog:
Does your dog love people? Are they friendly, gentle and appropriate with strangers? If so you may be able to share your dog's love with others in need through Therapy Dogs International.
Therapy Dogs International (TDI®) is a volunteer organization dedicated to regulating, testing and registration of therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers for the purpose of visiting nursing homes, hospitals, other institutions and wherever else therapy dogs are needed.

A Therapy Dog must have an outstanding temperament. This means that the dog should be outgoing and friendly to all people; men, women, and children. The dog should be tolerant of other dogs (of both genders) and non-aggressive toward other pets. Before you consider having your dog evaluated, you should ask yourself if your dog has these qualities. Once the TDI test is passed there is a fee of $45.00 for the first dog's membership to the TDI organization, and $30 per year to renew. TDI membership includes insurance coverage during each TDI visit.
NOTE: We are looking for 2 children between 7 and 12 (will take children outside that age group too) for a part of the test. The handler will walk with the dog past playing children (distance from the children must be at least 20 feet). Let us know if you have or can bring 2 or more children for the test. The start time is usually 1 p.m. and the end time will depend on the number of tests we do (5 dogs per test). We are usually done about 3 or 3:30.
We will also be looking for adult help that day as it takes about 6 to 8 workers to put on these tests.
